History
FM Green was founded in 1882 when Freddie Green was
given permission by Witney Town Council to set up as an insurance
agent to place Fire Insurance for The Liverpool London & Globe
(now part of Royal Sun Alliance).
Freddie was captain of the Witney Town Fire Brigade
as well as insurance entrepreneur. By 1900, he had opened a further
office in Bampton and was placing Accident and Liability business
with Northern Insurance, now part of Norwich Union.
In 1906 he became one of the first agents appointed
to write motor insurance business by Cornhill Insurance.
Freddie Green passed away in 1938 and the business
passed on to end up with Jack Room in 1954 who had worked for
FM Green since he was 14.
Ian and Mave Richens bought the business in 1972.
Since that time FM Green has been at the forefront of insurance
innovation.
One of their ideas was the Roofing Operatives Safety
Exam (ROSE) as an aid to risk management in the roofing trade.
Numerous insurance awards followed including being several times
winners of the prestigious Commercial Lines Broker of the Year
Award at The British Insurance Awards (including back to back
awards in 1996 and 1997).
The 1990s saw the establishment of several schemes
such as for AVRO and further development of the wholesale broker
arm.
In November 2006, FM Green became part of the Bollington
Group. Now the trading name of Bollington Underwriting Limited FM
Green Wholesale is devoted solely to meeting the needs of its many
broker clients..
